Add mileage – Free Online Small Business Accounting Software Questions & Answers

Hello,
How can I record my mileage as a Sole Trader, when I go to add myself as an employee I see a message warning me that I should not be an employee if I am a Sole Trader. Please advise, thanks.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for the question. So, some info.

  • As a sole trader you are the employee and the business.
  • You can’t be an employee of the business, that’s what a Limited company founder could do. It’s also the biggest difference. 
  • You can still hire employees though.
  • You can’t claim Mileage as a sole trader 🙁
