Hi. If I enter receipts late will the system pick up that I still have VAT to claim back

Sure, once you put in the right dates.
The system will generate the vat return for you and tell you it’s overdue probably. 
If you’ve already paid the vat for that period that’s a different story. Let me know.

    Ok,
    So the good news is Monday is nearly over
    The bad news is to fix that is quite a pain. You'll have to manually adjust the VAT account, then re-submit a manual VAT update etc. All would probably need to be done by an accountant.
    You could just enter them for this months VAT return, so bring the dates of the receipts forward, then you can add a comment stating that.
    Revenue are more concerned about fraud than mishaps.

    Sure, hope that helps. You can edit items in closed tax periods my marking the tax period as unpaid. But, the consequences are a little more complex.
